Alternatives to Saree Dressing
Try the “Laffaya” that Kanuri women wear in Borno. It is roughly the same and is available in 6 yards. Depending on the quality, prices differ. In many ways, it is similar to a saree. Sometimes I can’t even tell the difference.
So please let me know if you’re interested in that.
Physical Stores in Lagos that sells Sarees
Tejuosho Market has a large selection of it. I particularly enjoy it when they are used as chiffon.
Look around Ilupeju and VI, where a few Indian women are selling clothing from their country. There is one near Mr. Biggs and one in Adeola Adeola Street, however, I’m not entirely certain of their addresses. According to what I know, you can request one from India from these females.
For your information, sarees cannot be worn on their own. You must pair them with a complementary blouse, which is typically included with the saree. I don’t believe Lagos has any tailors skilled in sewing saree blouses.
In order to give a saree a larger appearance, matching underskirts are also worn underneath. According to what I’ve heard, wearing a 6-meter-long, heavily embroidered material while wearing a tight-fitting shirt and an underskirt might make the outfit feel stuffy and uncomfortable on someone who isn’t used to it.
Saree prices range from Rupees. 50 to one lakh rupees.
